The West Linn High School Baseball program is already preparing for next season, and I am so excited for my 3rd year here at WLHS as the Head Baseball Coach! Personally, I have lived in West Linn for 23 years, and have served at the youth and high school levels as a coach, board member and community volunteer. On the field we are the 2-time defending Three Rivers League Champions and 2015 State Finalist. Our future is bright and we have over 80 players who want to play baseball this year. We believe baseball mirrors the game of life and our program is about “Building Men” who will better serve our community long after they’re done playing the game.” Winning on the field is a bonus.
Running a comprehensive program of this size is a very important and all-encompassing commitment, and it takes many partners coming together to support these 80+ young men. It begins with the coaches, but extends to the school administration, parents, and just as importantly, beyond the HS campus to the surrounding community where these student-athletes are fortunate enough to spend their high school years.
Currently, the budget given to our baseball program by the district to run and operate three teams is $2,000, plus a small stipend to just 4 of our 11 coaches, and funding for umpires. This $2,000 budget doesn’t cover the cost of baseballs. We as a program are committed to fundraising the majority of our budget, and we need your help!!
We will be holding our “Denim & Diamonds” Dinner & Auction Fundraiser on Saturday, January 30th, and our goal is to raise $30,000 to fund the following:
New equipment for our batting facility, new video equipment, new on-field pitching/ball machines, heavy weight mound tarp, much needed bullpen mound repairs for the home and visiting teams, and most importantly extra funding for umpires so we can play a 4th JV2 schedule and keep more players in our program. We would also like to pay small stipends to our 7 additional coaches, as well as improve the surrounding areas of our existing facility (weed control, padding, general landscaping, etc.).
Guest Speakers from Top local NCAA, Junior College, and NAIA levels
The Goal of this event and West Linn HS Baseball is to educate the families in our community about the differences of the various playing levels and scholarships opportunities in college baseball today. We are lining up some of the best college coaches as guest speakers for this event.
Each of the guest speakers will talk about their program and school benefits, the playing level their program competes in, and the type of student-athletes they recruit. Each coach will also discuss the scholarship opportunities their school offers for both academics and baseball.
We believe this will be the most educational event we have ever had in our community for student-athletes. This event will help you to understand the opportunities your son and family will have when it comes to pursuing Baseball after High school while gaining the knowledge to prepare now.
Please join me at this special event and show support for our program and enjoy a wonderful evening!
